Don’t use the same password over and over!

Too many of us reuse passwords! It is important to use a unique password for each of your accounts like email and online banking. Choosing the same password for each of your online accounts is like using the same key to lock your home, car, office, and bank safe-deposit box – if a criminal gains access to one, all of them are compromised. Don’t use the same password for an online newsletter as you do for your email or bank account. It may be less convenient, but picking multiple passwords keeps you safer.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some of the passwords you think matter least actually matter most. For example, some people think that the password to their e-mail box isn't important because "I don't get anything sensitive there." Well, that e-mail box is probably connected to your online banking account. If I can compromise it then I can log into the Bank's Web site and tell it I've forgotten my password to have it e-mailed to me. Now, what were you saying about it not being important?

Can’t remember all of those passwords? Here are two free options to help you securely keep track of them:

DON’T USE THE SAME PASSWORD IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE!
